HISTORY Through the encouragement of Philippine CPA Board of Examiner Eugenio Reyes, a group of talented Filipino immigrants who are certified public accountants in the Philippines headed by Alberto Malig formed the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA - USA) on November 27, 1976 in San Francisco, California. The group formed the PICPA - USA as a non-profit professional organization. Their vision was to unite all Filipino-Americans, who are CPAs in the Philippines and/or in the State of California, to foster and encourage professional development, to assist each member in employment opportunities and advancement, and to be able to relate with other professional organizations with the idea of a common professional objective of growth and advancement to each one. In 1980, PICPA-USA formed a chapter in Los Angeles Metropolitan area. But when the National Council of Philippine American CPAs (NCPACPA) was formed in 1986, its Los Angeles Chapter separated to become an independent professional organization. Both became members of the NCPACPA. The NCPACPA to include CPA professionals from Canada was later renamed as National Council of Philippine and Canadian Accountants. Now after more than two decade of existence, PICPA-USA has grown to almost 300 members. PICPA-USA owed its solid roots to the following founding officers:
